NALCO Declares 25% Interim Dividend Amounting to Rs.322 Cr Bhubaneswar, 13.03.2015:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna PSU, under the Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, has declared an interim dividend of 25%, i.e. Rs.1.25 per share of Rs.5 each, amounting to Rs.322.15 crore for the financial year 2014-15, on the paid-up equity share capital of Rs.1288.62 crore. This has been approved in the meeting of the company’s Board of Directors held at New Delhi yesterday.


NALCO, which started its commercial operations in 1987 has been earning profits consistently and has been declaring dividends since 1992. In the last fiscal i.e for the 2013-14, the company had declared a total dividend of Rs.386.59 crore. It may be mentioned that since inception, NALCO has paid a total of Rs.4906 crore as dividend including Rs.4234 crore as share of Govt. of India.

 

International Women’s Day Celebrated by NALCO

International Women’s Day Celebrated by NALCOBhubaneswar, 09.03.2015:  On the eve of International Women’s Day, a special programme was organised on 7th March by National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) at Bhubaneswar. Ms. Snehamanjari Mishra (Secretary, Aaina) Eminent Social Personality, working for the development of persons with disability, women and children, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Shri Ansuman Das, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Shri S.C. Padhy, Director (HR), Shri A.K. Sahu, ED(H&A), spoke on the relevance of observing the day and stressed on the need of women empowerment.


Ms. Geeta Mohapatra, Sr. Manager (HRD) delivered the welcome address. Ms. Subhadarshini Senapati read out the message from Ms. Soma Mondal, Director (Commercial), in her absence. Ms. Neelima Kongari proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Urmi Adhira Roy coordinated the programme. A short play on Women Empowerment, namely ‘Jugaru Juganta, Nari Aparajeya’ was staged by Ichharam Foundation.

 

ONGC wins All India Public-Sector Volleyball Tournament

ONGC wins All India Public-Sector Volleyball TournamentBhubaneswar, 09.03.2015:  The All India Public Sector Volleyball Tournament, organized by National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), has come to an end on 7th March. ONGC has emerged as the winner of the tournament by defeating LIC by 3-0 set in the finals held at S&P Complex, Nalconagar, Angul. Shri Sanjib Roy, Executive Director(S&P), graced the concluding function as the Chief Guest and handed over the trophies, in presence of Secretary, Odisha Volleyball Association and others.


Altogether 8 PSUs viz. Coal India, Oil India, BSNL, ONGC, Neyvalli Lignite, BHEL, LIC and Nalco, participated in the 3-day tournament, which was organized by S&P Complex, Nalco. Prize giving ceremony was also attended by Shri C.R. Sahu, AGM(H&A), Shri S. Tarai, AGM(OL&Sports), besides Nalconian-cum-cricketers Shri Debasish Mohanty and Shri Shiv Sundar Das. Shri M.R. Das, DM(Finance), coordinated the closing ceremony, while Shri C.R. Choudhury, AM(A)-S&W, proposed a vote of thanks.


It may be mentioned that the Tournament was inaugurated on 5th March by Shri S.K. Ray, Executive Director (S&P), in presence of Shri P.K.Mohanty, Secretary, Odisha Volleyball Association(OVA), Shri Pradosh Mohanty, GM(H&A), Shri S.Tarai, AGM(OL & Sports) CO, Bhubaneswar, Shri Nirmal Samal, General Secretary, NES, RU.

 

NALCO to Host All India Public Sector Volleyball Tournament

Bhubaneswar, 03.03.2015:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna PSU of Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, is organizing the All India Public Sector Volleyball Tournament – 2014-15. The tournament will be held from 5th to 7th March 2015 at Biju Patnaik Sports Complex, Nalco Nagar, Angul. As a member of All India Public Sector Sports Promotion Board, NALCO is hosting this prestigious tournament.


The tournament will witness participation of teams from NALCO, Neyveli Lignite, ONGC, LIC, BHEL, SAIL, BSNL and Coal India. For the successful coordination of the event, an Organizing Committee has been constituted with the chairmanship of Shri S.K. Roy, Executive Director (S&P Complex), NALCO. The referees from Odisha Volleyball Association will conduct the matches.

 

NALCO’s Q3 Net Profit: Rs. 354 crore Net Sales: Rs. 1877 crore

Bhubaneswar, 11.02.2015:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna PSU of Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, has announced the results for the 3rd quarter ended December 2014.


According to the reviewed financial results for 3rd quarter of the financial year 2014-15, taken on record by the Board in a meeting held in Bhubaneswar yesterday, NALCO has registered a net profit of Rs.354 crore, up 170%, against Rs.131 crore achieved during the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.


The net profit for the 9 months ended December 2014 work out to Rs.967 crore, against the corresponding figure of Rs.470 crore for the previous fiscal, i.e. up by 106%. The net sales for the 9 months ended December 2014 is Rs.5,483 crore as compared to Rs. 4,868 crore in the corresponding period of the last financial year.


On the production front, during the first nine months, NALCO produced 14.24 lakh tonnes of alumina hydrate, as compared to 14.26 lakh tonnes achieved during the comparable period of the previous fiscal. Metal production was 2.44 lakh tonnes, against 2.38 lakh tonnes registered during the comparable nine months of the previous fiscal. Power generation was 3,858 MU against 3,760 MU achieved in the corresponding period of the previous year.

WORKSHOP BY NALCO Scope for 100 Fly-ash Brick Units in AngulBhubaneswar, 03.02.2015 :  Going by the free availability of fly-ash from Nalco, ever-expanding market for such bricks, easy and attractive bank loans, as well as government’s new guidelines and single-window clearance policy, about 100 fly-ash brick manufacturing units could be set up in Angul district gainfully, according to Shri Nirakar Mishra, GM, District Industries Centre. He was addressing a workshop organized by the Periphery Development Wing of Nalco’s Smelter & Power Complex, on February 3 at Angul, in which the Sarpanchs and enterprising youngsters from 20 nearby gram panchayats participated. Shri Gopabandhu Pradhan, DCIO, threw light on the technology aspects of brick manufacturing. From Nalco Shri Sanjib Roy, ED(S&P), presided over the workshop and assured of Nalco’s full support as per the prevailing govt norms. Shri Ashok Patra, GM(Materials), Shri K.K. Panda, GM(CPP), and Shri Sudhir Patnaik, AGM(AMD) also spoke on the subject. Shri Anil Bhatt, GM(H&A) I/c & Head of PD, coordinated the proceedings and Shri Rajendra Mishra, Manager(Civil)-PD, proposed a vote of thanks.

NALCO’s 160 KWp Rooftop Solar Project InauguratedBhubaneswar, 28.01.2015:  The 160 KWp Rooftop Solar Project at the Corporate Office of National Aluminium Company (NALCO), a Navratna PSU was formally inaugurated by Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Hon’ble Minister of State for Steel & Mines, Govt. of India, today at Bhubaneswar, in the presence of Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, Shri N.R. Mohanty, Director (P&T), Shri S.C. Padhy, Director (HR), Ms. Soma Mondal, Director (Commercial), Shri V. Balasubramanyam, Director (Production) & other Senior Officials. This is the first largest Rooftop Solar Power Project commissioned in the State on a single roof.


The Rooftop Solar Power Project has been set-up at a total project cost of Rs.1.25 Cr as part of company’s effort towards harnessing the unconventional and renewable energy sources. It may be mentioned that NALCO has also taken up the installation of Rooftop Solar project of 100 KWp at its township in Nalco Nagar, Bhubaneswar and also has the plans for similar projects in its units. Besides, the company is evaluating to set-up more Solar Power Plants at other suitable locations in India.

NALCO East Zone Golf tournament concludes Satyajyoti Mohanty emerges championBhubaneswar: 25/01/2015:  12th NALCO East Zone Golf tournament concluded here at the Bhubaneswar Golf Club(BGC). Local golfer Shri Satyajyoti Mohanty emerged as the champion and received the NALCO trophy from Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, NALCO.


Besides, Ms Lakhi Swain was awarded as the Best Lady Golfer while Shri Prabhuda Ray and Shri Ramit Kapoor were awarded in Senior category and Best Gross category respectively. Shri Trilochan Singh of Mowbhandar Railway Club (West Bengal), was awarded as the Best Outstation Golfer. Among the youngsters, Shri Dharmendra Mishra also received trophy in 19-24 handicap category. Shri S.C. Padhy, Director (HR), NALCO, Ms. Soma Mondal, Director (Commercial), NALCO, Shri V. Balasubramanyam, Director (Production), NALCO, and Shri Dulal Pani, Secretary of Bhubaneswar Golf Club handed over the awards to the winners in various categories at the award ceremony held yesterday.


In the team event held today, Shri Ajay Negi, Shri J.N. Rath, Shri Jayant Biswas & Shri Ranjit Singh has emerged as the winners. Over 80 golfers from 15 clubs of eastern India including teams from West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha etc participated in the tourney. The three-day 18-hole stroke-play inter-club tournament, the biggest in Odisha, under the aegis of Bhubaneswar Golf Club (BGC), featured competition in men, women and veterans categories and was organized for the twelfth time in series at the Golf course at Infocity, Bhubaneswar.

Flower Show by NalcoBhubaneswar, 19.01.2015:  National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) organized ‘Basant Pushpa Pradarshani’, its annual Flower & Vegetable Show at Nalco Nagar, Bhubaneswar on 17th and 18th January 2015. As many as 12 institutions and 77 individuals participated in the show in various categories.


Shri Vishal Dev, IAS, CMD, IDCO inaugurated the show in the presence of Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, Shri N.R. Mohanty, Director (P&T), Shri S.C. Padhy, Director (HR), Shri V. Balasubramanyam, Director (Production), and other senior executives of Nalco.


On the concluding day, Smt. Manasi Das, graced the occasion as the chief guest while Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, Shri S.C. Padhy, Director (HR), Ms. Soma Mondal, Director (Commercial), Shri S.K. Dash, Shri A.K. Sahu, Executive Director (H&A) & Executive Director (P&T) graced as dignitaries and handed over the prizes to the winners. In the Institutional Category C.V. Raman College of Engg. Bagged the winners trophy while Khuntia Nivas bagged the Runners-up trophy. In the Private category Shri Laxmi Narayan Khuntia was the Champion while Smt. Rasmirekha Rout was the Runners-up.

NALCO bags EEPC Export Award

NALCO bags EEPC Export AwardBhubaneswar, 15.01.2015:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna PSU and India’s leading manufacturer-exporter of alumina and aluminium, has bagged the EEPC (Engineering Export Promotion Council, Eastern Region)’s Gold Trophy, as Top Exporter in the Large Enterprise Category, for its outstanding export performance during the year 2012-13.


On behalf of the company, S. Samantaray, DGM(Mktg.) received the award from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India, at EEPC Regional Award Ceremony for Export Excellence 2012-2013, held at Kolkata on January 14.


During the financial year 2012-13, NALCO has achieved sales turnover of Rs.7247 crore, including the export earnings of Rs.3410 crore.


It may be mentioned here that NALCO enjoys Premier Trading House status, and it is the first Indian aluminium company to be registered with London Metal Exchange, for its high quality products.

It may be mentioned that the FIH (Federation of International Hockey) Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament 2014 was inaugurated on 6th December. NALCO had become a part of the tournament as a co-sponsor.

NALCO HOSTS REGIONAL MEET OF FORUM FOR WOMEN IN PUBLIC SECTOR (WIPS)Bhubaneswar, 06.12.2014:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna PSU of Govt. of India, hosted the Regional Meet of the Eastern Region Chapter of Forum for Women in Public Sector (WIPS), under the aegis pf Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE). The meet was held at Mahanadi Nivas Auditorium, Nalco Nagar, Bhubaneswar yesterday.


The programme was inaugurated by Shri Ansuman Das, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NALCO, in presence of Shri S.S. Mahapatra, Director (Production), Shri N.R. Mohanty, Director (P&T), Ms. Soma Mondal, Director (Commercial), Ms. Amita Saha, President, WIPS, Eastern Region, Ms. Sanchita Banerjee, Secretary, WIPS, Eastern Region. Sushree Arati Devi, Sarapanch, Dhunkapada Gram Panchayat, Polasara Block in Ganjam District graced the occasion as the speaker.


The theme of the Regional Meet was ‘Women in Pursuit of Swachh Bharat’. Addressing the gathering on the theme Sushree Arati Devi stressed on the role of women in achieving the target of Swachh Bharat.


In his presidential address, Shri Anusman Das stressed on how women have achieved leadership positions in the corporate world by utilizing their talent and potential. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Soma Mondal highlighted the problems faced by working women and suggested the possible solutions to overcome these challenges.


A panel discussion on ‘What is holding women back?’ was also organized on this occasion. Dr. Bijan Basini Mohanty, Retired Professor, Department of Personnel Management and Industrial relations, Utkal University, Ms. Paramita Mahapatra, Director on Board, IMFA, Ms. Sampa Chakrabarty Lahiri, HOD (Corporate Communications), Hindustan Copper Limited, Kolkata participated in this discussion as the panelists. Shri Sujit Mahapatra, Founder and Secretary, Bakul Foundation was the moderator of the panel discussion.

NALCO Opens New Stockyard at New Delhi

NALCO Opens New Stockyard at New Delhi Bhubaneswar, 26.11.2014:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna PSU of Govt. of India, has opened a new stockyard at New Delhi. Shri Ansuman Das, Chairman-cum- Managing Director inaugurated the stockyard on 24th November, in the presence of Ms. Soma Mondal, Director (Commercial), Shri R.N. Lenka, Executive Director (Marketing), Shri A.S. Ahluwalia, Regional Manager (NR) and other officials of NALCO and customers of Northern Region.


It may be mentioned that, New Delhi is the 11th stockyard of NALCO in the country. This will further boost the sale of aluminium metal in Northern Region.

 

NALCO organizes Health Camp

NALCO organizes Health Camp Bhubaneswar, 24.11.2014:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) organized a free health check-up camp at Dangarpada Village in Khurda district yesterday.


The camp was held in the premises of Lingaraj High School. Around 800 patients from nearby villages attended the camp. Free medicines, as per the requirement were provided to them after health check-up.


Led by Dr. L. Satpathy, DGM(MS) the team included Dr. J. Panda, Dr. M.K. Wagji and Dr. M.S. Panda. NALCO staff including Shri R.K. Samal, Shri B.N. Paikray, Shri R.K. Behera, Shri A.K. Patri, Shri Ekadasi Sahoo, Ms. Bisnupriya Mishra, assisted the team.


Shri A.K. Sahu, ED(H&A), Shri R.K. Mishra, GM(H&A) & Shri Amiya Patnaik, GM(H&A) were notably present in the camp.

Nalco Pays Final Dividend

Nalco Pays Final DividendBhubaneswar, 13.11.2014:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India has declared a total dividend amount of Rs.386.59 crore (i.e. 30% of the Paid up Capital) for the financial year 2013-14. This includes the Govt. of India’s share of Rs. 313.23 crore. It may be noted that since inception, NALCO has paid a total of Rs.4905.77 crore as dividend, including Rs.4233.96 crore as share of Govt. of India.


Out of Rs.313.23 crore payable to Govt. of India, the company has already paid Rs.229.80 crore as interim dividend during March 2014. The cheque for final dividend amounting to Rs.83.43 crore was handed over to Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Hon’ble Union Minister of Mines and Steel, Govt. of India, by Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, NALCO, in New Delhi today, in the presence of Dr. Anup K. Pujari, IAS, Secretary, Shri R. Sridharan, IAS, Additional Secretary, and other senior officials of the Ministry and Directors of the company.


Meanwhile, the company has announced the results for the 2nd quarter ended September 2014. NALCO 2nd Quarter Net Profit up 91% at Rs. 342 crore Bhubaneswar, 12.11.2014:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna PSU of Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India and Country’s leading manufacturer and exporter of alumina and aluminium has reported excellent results for the 2nd quarter ended September 2014.


According to the reviewed financial results for the 2nd quarter of the financial year 2014-15 taken on record by the Board in the meeting held at New Delhi today, NALCO has achieved higher net profit of Rs.342 crore, as against Rs.179 crore in corresponding quarter of previous fiscal, registering an increase of 91%. Similarly, the sales turnover surged by about 14 % to Rs.245 crore over the comparative quarter of last year.


The net profit and sales turnover for the half year ended September 2014 were also higher at Rs.613 crore and Rs.3607 crore, respectively, as against the corresponding figures of Rs.339 crore and Rs.3247 crore achieved during the first six months of the previous fiscal.


On the production front, during the first half, NALCO achieved a production of 9.64 lakh tonnes of alumina hydrate, while metal production was at 1.61 lakh tonnes.

Nalco Ladies Club joins hands for ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaignBhubaneswar, 04.11.2014:  Nalco Ladies Club, Bhubaneswar, has joined the nationwide ‘'Swachh Bharat’ cleanliness campaign and undertook cleanliness activities.


It may be mentioned that “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”, was started from 25th September 2014, for promoting the national cleanliness campaign. To mark their participation in this campaign the members of Nalco Ladies Club, Bhubaneswar organized a special programme on 2nd November 2014 in the premises of Nalco Nagar. On this occasion, “Swachhata Sapath” (Pledge) was administered by Smt. Manasi Das, President in Odia and Smt. Suravi Mahapatra in Hindi among its members. A street play was performed on the occasion followed by cleaning campaign in the premises.

NALCO observes ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’Bhubaneswar, 31.10.2014  To commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and to reiterate India’s strength and buoyancy against adversaries, National Aluminium Company Limited(NALCO), the Navratna PSU under Ministry of Mines, Govt of India, joined the nation in observing ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’. To mark the occasion, 'Rashtriya Ekta’ pledge was administered among the employees in three languages, followed by collective singing of the National Anthem. At the Corporate Office, Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, along with Directors and senior executives were notably present on the occasion. 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' was also observed at company’s units & regional offices.

 

Seminar on Vendor Development Programme at NALCO

Bhubaneswar, 30/10/2014:  With a view to bring the service providers to MSME fold, NALCO’s S&P Complex, Angul, organized a vender development programme in its Training Centre on 28th October 2014. Around 100 service providers of NALCO participated in the programme.


At the outset, Shri Gopabandhu Pradhan, District Cottage Industries Officer, DIC, Angul, welcomed the guests and briefed about the objectives of the meeting. Gracing the occasion as chief guest, Shri S.K. Roy, Executive Director (S&P), highlighted the significance of MSME Sector in national economy and elaborated on various measures taken for the growth of this sector by NALCO. Guest of honour Shri Nirakar Mishra, GM, DIC, Angul, threw light on various plans and programmes of the government for development of service sector and incentives prescribed in IPR 2007 and MSME Act 2009. Among others, Shri P.C. Nayak, Dy. Zonal Manager, NSIC, Bhubaneswar, Shri P.K. Gupta, Director, MSME-DI, Cuttack, Shri K.K. NALCO Observes Vigilance Awareness Week

NALCO Observes Vigilance Awareness WeekBhubaneswar, 27/10/2014:  National Aluminium Company (NALCO) joined the Nation in observing Vigilance Awareness Week in its sites and offices. This year, the week is being celebrated from October 27 to November 1, with the theme ‘Combating Corruption : Technology as an Enabler’.


Inaugurating the week-long programme at the Corporate Office, today, Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, along with Shri S.C Padhy, Director (HR) and Shri Subrat Kar, DGM (Vigilance), administered the pledge among the employees in three different languages. The excerpts from the messages given by constitutional authorities were also read out to the employees on the occasion. A seminar based on this year’s theme was also organized on the occasion.


Shri R. Srikumar, IPS (Retd.), Former Vigilance Commissioner of India, and noted journalist Shri Vineet Narain, graced the occasion as the chief guest and chief speaker respectively. While chief speaker Shri Narain shared his experience on fighting against corruption through a presentation, chief guest Shri R. NALCO joins hands for ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaignBhubaneswar, 03.10.2014:  National Aluminium Company Limited(NALCO), the Navratna PSU under Ministry of Mines, Govt of India, joined the nationwide ‘'Swachh Bharat’ cleanliness campaign and undertook host of activities at its Corporate office, Operating Units and residential townships on October 2.


Apart from administering 'Swachhta Shapath' among the employees and cleanliness drive in its residential township & at Corporate Office, an awareness rally and street play were also organized on the occasion. Besides, as part of Swachh Vidyalaya campaign, Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, also launched the construction of toilets at the nearby Damana Govt High School and U.G.U.P School, at Bhubaneswar. Shri N.R. Mohanty, Director (P&T), Shri S.C. Padhy, Director(HR), Shri K.C. Samal, Director(Finance), Ms Soma Mondal, Director(Commercial), along with other senior executives, officials of NALCO Foundation and Headmistress & staff of both the schools were notably present on the occasion.


Moreover, as part of the campaign, NALCO also launched the construction of two more toilets at schools in periphery villages of its operating units at Damanjodi and one in Angul. It may be mentioned that NALCO has consented to be an active partner in this campaign launched by the Govt of India, and has identified more than 150 schools for providing sanitation facilities.


Similarly, 'Swachh Bharat’ campaigns were also undertaken at company’s units at Damanjodi and Angul. Shri R.K. Mishra, Executive Director (M&R) and Shri S.K. Roy, Executive Director (S&P) administered the pledge among the employees at Mines & Refinery Complex and at Smelter & Power Complex respectively. To mark the occasion, employees, school children of DPS & SVM participated in large numbers in various awareness activities and undertook cleanliness drives.

 

NALCO Announces Dividend of Rs. 387 Crore for 2013-14

Bhubaneswar, 27/09/2014:  In the 33rd Annual General Meeting held here today, the shareholders of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna PSU under Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, have approved a total dividend payout of 30%, which works out to Rs.1.50 per share. The total pay-out is Rs.387 crore for 2013-14. Since inception, NALCO has paid a total of Rs.4906 crore as dividend, including Rs.4234 crore as share of Govt. of India.

Following the Annual General Meeting, Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, NALCO addressed the mediapersons and highlighted the performance of the company and its growth plans. He said, “With a view to achieve sustainable development, NALCO has begun a new odyssey to conquer the challenges of present and the threats of future. After 33 years of operations, the company is now focusing to move forward through further expansions, diversifications, and thereby enhance sustainability coupled with stakeholders’ satisfaction.” Peripheral Development and environment protection has been given additional thrust.

He further said that the company is currently embarking upon an ambitious growth plan, which involves a substantial investment in next 3 to 4 years, not only in aluminium sector, but also in energy sector. This will give a significant boost to NALCO’s productivity and profitability.

Continuing with its self-propelled growth, the company has completed the up-gradation of 4th Stream of Alumina Refinery leading to capacity increase from 21 lakh TPY to 22.75 lakh TPY and that of Bauxite Mines from 6.3 Million TPY to 6.825 Million TPY at an estimated project cost of Rs.400 crore approximately.

As part of its green initiatives, the company has also commissioned of 47.6 MW Wind Power Project II at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan at an investment of Rs.283 crore. The first Wind Power Plant of 50.4 MW in Andhra Pradesh was commissioned in 2012-13. About 150 million units of electricity was generated from these two plants, in 2013-14. In another step to harness alternative energy sources, the company has commissioned rooftop solar system at Corporate Office building (160 kwp) and also installed rooftop solar system in township buildings (100 kwp) at Bhubaneswar.

NEW VENTURES : Looking Beyond the Existing Resources

While the efforts are on to make profit and maintain a successful track record as a Navratna in the aluminium sector, NALCO is now looking beyond its core operations, with a view to achieve a new level of corporate distinction.    

Some of these initiatives are:

• Alumina Refinery Project in Gujarat

NALCO has been pursuing to set up 1 MTPA alumina refinery in Kutch district of Gujarat based on supply of bauxite from GMDC’s mines, for which Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project has already been prepared. The project is likely to be taken up in JV, for which GMDC has been approached.

2nd Smelter and CPP in Odisha

A Smelter & Power complex envisaged to come up at Sundargarh, Odisha has also received clearance of State Govt. To make it viable, the company is trying for coal block allocation.

• Caustic Soda Project

The company plans to set up a 2 Lakh TPA caustic soda plant at Dahej in Gujarat at an estimated investment of Rs.950 crore in JV with GACL for which the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is under review.

• Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Conductor Plant

The company has plans to set up aluminium and aluminium alloy conductors for which the Techno-economic Feasibility Report (TEFR) has been made. Govt. of Odisha has made in-principle allocation of 30 acres of land in the Angul Aluminium Park.

• Overseas Smelter:

       The company is exploring the opportunity to set up a Greenfield aluminium smelter in a country where energy would be available at a competitive price to make the project viable. As of now, 5 countries have been short listed considering various factors like shipping distance from India, availability of required quantum of energy and price viability, geo-political scenario, availability of infrastructure etc. Indian Embassies of the identified countries have been approached for necessary data/information. A consultant is being appointed shortly for ascertaining the best possible destination for the project.

• 14 MW Wind Power Plant at Damanjodi

The company is planning to set up a 14 MW wind power project in mined out area of its bauxite mines in Damanjodi. Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) has been prepared.

• 100 MW Wind Power Plant

The company also plans to set up 100MW wind power project at a suitable location in India. Selection of wind power developer is underway.
• Solar Power Project

The company plans to set up a solar power plant of appropriate capacity at a suitable location in India to meet its solar renewable purchase obligation (RPO).

• Rooftop Solar Power Project

The company is also undertaking feasibility study to establish ground mounted and rooftop solar power project at the NALCO Research & Technology Centre (NRTC) at Bhubaneswar as well as at Smleter and Township at Angul.

NALCO FOUNDATION

NALCO, while trying to be a leader through its performance and productivity is also maintaining a balance and caring for the protection and development of ecology, environment and communities. In the field of Corporate Social Responsibility, NALCO is revamping its plans and procedures to improve the quality of life of the communities residing in the vicinity of our plants and sites, through NALCO Foundation and Peripheral Development activities. NALCO Foundation is focused on welfare and development of villages located within 15 kms radius of the company’s Mines & Refinery Complex at Damanjodi, Smelter & Power Complex at Angul and also the proposed mining areas at Pottangi in Odisha and Gudem & KR Konda in Andra Pradesh.

Some of the major CSR initiatives undertaken by NALCO Foundation are as follows:

1. Mobile Health Units

Considering the good response, NALCO increased the number of Mobile Health Units (MHUs) to 8 from 6, operated in the periphery villages of its Smelter & Power Complex, Angul (43 villages) and Mining & Refinery Complex, Damanjodi (142 villages). During the year, total 2,463 camps were conducted and total 1,09,166 number of patients from periphery villages of Damanjodi and Angul were treated free of cost.

2. Sponsoring formal education of children living in periphery villages of  Damanjodi

          Keeping in view that imparting education is the best investment in CSR, the company continued the unique scheme of sponsoring children to residential schools bearing the entire cost. During the year, 254 more children were sponsored.  Total number of students sponsored so far was 655 at a cost of Rs.1.31 crore. The children are from 16 periphery villages of its Mines & Refinery Complex at Damanjodi, in the tribal dominated and Maoist-infested district of Koraput.

3.  Swachh Bharat Mission:

The company has already consented to be an active partner in the Swachh Bharat Mission launched by the Government of India. To start with, around 100 schools around the company’s 15 km radius areas. have been identified for providing sanitation facilities to boys & girls.

Bhubaneswar, 24.09.2014:  The Mines & Refinery Complex of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna PSU under Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India has been conferred with the National Energy Conservation Award in appreciation of its laudable efforts in the arena of Energy Conservation, specific to the Aluminium Sector for the year 2012. It may be mentioned that the Mines & Refinery Complex of NALCO, situated at Damanjodi, Koraput, Odisha, has emerged as the only unit to achieve this award in the Aluminium sector in the year 2012.


On behalf of the company, Shri V. Balasubramanyam, Executive Director (Production) received the award from Smt. Neerja Mathur, Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority (CEA), during the National Energy Conservation Award Function held on 23rd September 2014 at Central Electricity Authority Auditorium, Ministry of Power, New Delhi.


It may be mentioned that Mines & Refinery Complex has achieved a significant reduction of 9.779% in specific Electrical energy consumption and 2.344% reduction in specific thermal energy consumption in the year 2011-12, as compared to the year 2010-11.

Instituted by the Orissa Engineers’ Forum, Shri Das received the award in recognition of his outstanding contributions and professional excellence, from Shri Debi Prasad Mishra, Hon'ble Minister of Industries, School & Mass Education, Govt. of Odisha, in the presence of Shri Gopal Ballav Pattanaik, former Chief Justice of India and Prof. Baishnab Charan Tripathy, Vice-Chancellor, Ravenshaw University.


A Mechanical Engineer from REC, Rourkela (Now National Institute of Technology), Shri Das has more than three decades of long professional association with the Aluminium Industry and is very-well known in industry circles and holds a number of key positions in several industry associations. He started his career with the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and subsequently joined NALCO in 1982.

Bhubaneswar, 15/09/2014:  With a view to promote the use of Hindi as official language, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) celebrated Hindi fortnight at its Corporate Office and sites from 1st to 15th September 2014. To mark the occasion, NALCO organised various competitions among its employees including essay, debate, noting quiz etc. At the concluding day function held today at corporate office, Shri Ansuman Das, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NALCO as the chief guest handed over the prizes to the winners in the various competitions. Among others, Shri N.R. Mohanty, Director(P&T), Shri S.C. Padhy, Director(HR), Shri K.C. Samal, Director(Finance), Ms Soma Mondal, Director(Commercial) & Shri A.K. Sahu, ED(H&A) were notably present on the occasion. The dignitaries addressing the gathering and stressed on the implementation of Hindi Language in day today official work.

Shri Ansuman Das, CMD inaugurated the stockyard yesterday, in the presence of Ms. Soma Mondal, Director (Commercial), Shri R.N. Lenka, Executive Director (Mktg) I/c, representatives of western region office and customers of western region.


NALCO plans to sell around 8000 MT per annum from the stockyard and shall cater to the customers in and around Gujarat.


It may be mentioned that, Vadodara is the 10th stockyard of NALCO in the country.

The model police station was jointly inaugurated by Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, Nalco and Shri Sanjeev Marik, IPS, DGP, on 24th August, in the presence of Shri P.S. Ranpise, IPS, IG of Police (NCR), Shri Narsingha Bhol, IPS, SP, Angul, Shri S.K. Roy, ED(S&P), Shri Pradosh Mohanty, GM(H&A), and others.


The inauguration ceremony was followed by a Public interaction and planting of saplings. Ms. Sara Sharma, Addl. SP, Angul proposed a vote of thanks.

(NALCO), the Navratna PSU of Govt. of India, organized the 19th Plant Level Advisory Committee (PLAC) Meeting, at Bhubaneswar today. The meeting was chaired by Shri Ansuman Das, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NALCO. Shri Panchanan Dash, Secretary to Govt., MSME Department, Odisha, Shri Sarat Chandra Naik, Special Secretary to Govt., Industries Department, Odisha, Shri Nityananda Palai, IAS, Director of Industries, Govt. of Odisha and Ms. Soma Mondal, Director (Commercial), NALCO were notably present on the occasion and held discussions with the members and representatives of various Micro & Small Scale as well as Ancillary industries of the State.


At the outset, in her welcome address, Ms Soma Mondal, Director (Commercial), highlighted NALCO’s concern as a mother industry towards promoting the interest of local Micro & Small Enterprises (MSE). Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, NALCO said that in context of globalization it is evident that the MSE units should lay more emphasis in maintaining quality, cost competitiveness and technological up gradations. ‘Moreover NALCO is always eager to support the MSEs, in whatever way that is feasible’ said Shri Das. He also said that the concrete efforts put in both by NALCO and MSE units, with the requisite support from the concerned Government bodies, has helped to build up a rising trend in the business dealings between NALCO & MSE units. Sharing his views on the upcoming Aluminium Park at Angul, Shri Das said that the same is expected to promote downstream and ancillary industries. NALCO has committed to supply 50,000 MT hot metal to the JV Company. Odisha based industries should take advantage of it.


Speaking on this occasion, Shri Panchanan Dash advised all District Industries Centres (DICs) to be more active as facilitators between NALCO and the MSEs. Similarly sharing their views, other dignitaries appreciated the role of NALCO as mother industry and expressed their satisfaction on company’s functioning towards promotion of Ancillary and MSE units in the State. A booklet printed by NALCO’s S&P Complex ‘Product Profile for Micro and Small Enterprises’ was released on this occasion. During the meeting, while Shri B. Mohanty, GM, DIC, Bhubaneswar read out the Overall Purchase Statistics, Shri B.K. Dash, Addl. Director, DIC, Cuttack proposed the vote of thanks.


During the meeting, presentations were made by the NALCO officials explaining the methodology of placement of orders on Ancillary units. The items identified for purchases from MSE/Ancillary units were also detailed out. It may be mentioned here that Nalco has given Ancillary status to 57MSEs of the State.


Participants including PLAC members, representatives from OSIC, Directorate of Industries, Export Promotion & Marketing (EP&M), along with representatives of Odisha Small Scale Industries Association, Odisha Young Entrepreneurs Association, Odisha Assembly of Small & Medium Enterprises, Utkal Chambers of Commerce and Industries and others were present on the occasion.

 

Net Profit higher by 58% compared to last quarter

Bhubaneswar: 14.08.2014:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna PSU of Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, has announced the results for the 1st quarter ended June, 2014.


According to the reviewed financial results for the 1st quarter of the financial year 2014-15 taken on record by the Board of Directors in the meeting held in New Delhi on 13th August,2014, NALCO has registered a net profit of Rs.271 crores which is higher by 58% compared to last quarter.


On production front, during the quarter the quantum of bauxite, alumina and aluminium production were 14.04 lakh tonnes, 4.076 lakh tonnes and 79,240 MT respectively. In spite of reduced production level the company has been able to post higher profits due to improved specific consumption of coal, caustic soda etc.


The total alumina sale during the quarter was 3.15 lakh tonnes primarily in exports and aluminium sales was about 77,400 MT in both India and overseas markets.

NALCO & IREL signs MoU for Titanium Slag Plant in OdishaBhubaneswar: 15.07.2014:  National Aluminium Co. Ltd. (NALCO), the Navratna PSU and India's leading manufacturer exporters of aluminium has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Rare Earths Ltd (IREL), a Govt. of India Undertaking under Department of Atomic Energy for jointly establishing a Titanium Slag Plant of 1 lakh tonne capacity at Odisha Sand Complex, at Chatrapur, Odisha.


Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, NALCO and Dr R.N. Patra, CMD of IREL, signed the MoU yesterday at Mumbai in the presence of senior officials of both the companies. It may be mentioned that the project is contemplated in JV mode for which feasibility study & technology selection would be carried out very soon. The project envisages value addition to ilmenite to produce Titanium Slag which is an intermediate product for making titanium sponge and titanium pigments.

Bhubaneswar: 07.07.2014:  Navratna PSU National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) joined the nation in celebrating the Van Mahotsav Week – 2014 from 1st to 7th July. As part of the week, plantation drives and other related programmes were organized at its offices and sites.


To mark the celebrations, a plantation programme was organized at Nalco Nagar, Bhubaneswar, on 4th July. On this occasion, Shri Anusman Das, CMD, Shri S.S. Mahapatra, Director (Production), Shri S.C. Padhy, Director (HR), Shri K.C. Samal, Director (Finance), Ms. Soma Mondal, Director (Commercial) planted saplings. Senior officials, representatives & office -bearers of Recognized Unions and others also participated in this programme. The plantation programme was coordinated by Horticulture department of Corporate Office.


Similar programmes were also organized during the week at the M&R Complex, Damanjodi and S&P Complex, Angul.

TOLIC Meeting at NalcoBhubaneswar: 27.06.2014:  The second meeting of Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC) (Undertakings), Bhubaneswar, under the Department of Official Language, Govt. of India, was held under the aegis of Nalco, here on 25th June. Shri Ansuman Das, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Nalco, presided over the meeting. It may be mentioned that the Department of Official Language, Govt. of India has selected Shri Das as the Chairman of this Committee. Speaking at this occasion, Shri Das cited this Committee as a major instrument in expediting the implementation of Hindi as official language in Government sector.


Shri S.C. Padhy, Director (HR), Shri A.K. Sahu, Executive Director (H&A), Shri Sarad Kumar, Director, Airport Authority of India, Bhubaneswar, Shri Nirmal Kumar Dubey, Deputy Director, Eastern Office (Kolkata), Department of Official Language, also graced the occasion. Speaking at this occasion, the Shri S.C. Padhy, who is also the Vice Chairman of the Committee, advised the representatives to make concerted effort to enhance the standard of the Committee as one of the best committees in implementing the use of Hindi. Shri A.K. Sahu stress on taking innovative steps towards popularizing Hindi. Shri Dubey, in his speech, emphasized on the timely online uploading of the quarterly progress report of the Committee.


The representatives from different PUSs put forth their problems in implementing Hindi as Official Language and Shri Dubey tried to address these issues. Shri Sudarsan Tarai, AGM(Rajbhasa), NALCO and Member Secretary of the Committee delivered the welcome address and coordinated the meeting. At the end, Shri Harirama Pansari proposed the vote of thanks.

 

NALCO Reiterates its Commitment to Supply Hot Metal to Angul Aluminium Park

Bhubaneswar: 26.06.2014:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, reiterates its commitment to supply hot metal to the proposed Angul Aluminium Park, which is a Joint Venture Between NALCO and Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO).


It may be mentioned that the Department of Industrial Promotion and Policy, Government of India has recently agreed to provide a grant-in aid of Rs.43 crore for the development of the physical infrastructure and common utilities in the Angul Aluminium Park. After this nod, IDCO had sought commitment from NALCO to provide raw material support to the downstream units to be located in the park. Though NALCO is operating at reduced capacities, due to the difficulties in getting adequate supply of coal for its Captive Power Plant, the company has agreed to supply 50,000 tonnes per annum of molten metal initially to Angul Aluminium Park for promoting downstream industries.


NALCO may consider enhancing the quantity once the Utkal-E Coal Bloack (allotted to NALCO) gets operational, which is presently delayed due to several hurdles and requested the State authorities to intervene to remove such hurdles.

NALCO donates patrolling vans to Police CommissionerateBhubaneswar: 25.06.2014:  Navratna PSU National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has donated 5 numbers of Police Control Room (PCR) vans to assist the Commisionerate Police (Bhubaneswar-Cuttack) to help people in need and maintain law and order.


The PCR vans fleet was formally flagged off by Shri Prakash Mishra, IPS, DG & IG of Police, Odisha and Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, NALCO at the Police Commissionerate Head Quarters, here today. NALCO as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility had spent around Rs 32 lakh towards the cost of these PCR vans. Shri S.S. Mahapatra, Director (Production), Shri N.R. Mohanty, Director(P&T), Shri S.C. Padhy, Director (HR), Ms. Soma Mondal, Director(Commercial) of NALCO, along with the senior officers of the company and Police Officers of the Commissionerate were present on the occasion.


It may be mentioned that NALCO, as a responsible corporate citizen, has always come forward to provide assistance to the state administration in maintaining the law and order situation. With the donation of the 5 PCR vans, the company has so far donated a total 40 PCR vans to the Commissionerate of Police.

 

NALCO's Net Profit at Rs.642 crore

Bhubaneswar, 28.05.2014:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna PSU under Ministry of Mines, Government of India, has declared its financial results for 2013-14 fiscal. According to the audited financial results for the year, taken on record by the Board of Directors in a meeting held in New Delhi today, NALCO has posted a Net Profit of Rs.642 crore during the year compared to to Rs.593 crores achieved during the previous fiscal up, 8%. The export turnover of the Company was all time high at Rs.3719 crore.


The company has reported improved performance in terms of production for the year 2013-14. During the year, the company has achieved highest-ever bauxite production of 62.93 lakh tonnes, against the previous best of 54.19 lakh tonnes achieved in 2012-13. At the same time, NALCO’s Alumina Refinery has produced 19.25 lakh tonnes of alumina hydrate, which is an all-time high, against the previous best of 18.02 lakh tonnes achieved in 2012-13.


However, during the year, the metal production of the company was curtailed from 4.03 lakh tonnes to 3.16 lakh tonnes, due to planned shutdown of some pots due to lower LME price. The net power generation by company’s Captive Power Plant was 4,989 million units.


The company has achieved highest-ever sale of Alumina / Hydrate of 13.43 lakh tonnes against 9.85 lakh achieved in previous year. Total metal sale was 3.20 lakh tonnes against 4.03 lakh tonnes in 2012-13 fiscal.

Bhubaneswar, 13.05.2014:  Dr. Anup K. Pujari, IAS, Secretary to Govt. of India, Ministry of Mines, visited Nalco Corporate Office yesterday. He was accompanied by Shri R. Sridharan, IAS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India.


During this visit, Dr. Pujari and Shri Sridharan had an interaction with the senior officials of Nalco. Shri Ansuman Das, CMD and other Directors of the company were also present. In his address, Dr. Pujari appreciated the role of Nalco in grooming professionals and its contribution towards spreading management excellence in the state. He also discussed different issues with the officials of the company.


Speaking on this occasion, Shri Sridharan cited Nalco as a public-oriented PSU and appreciated the company for sustaining an impressive growth trajectory. He advised the senior officials of the company to think seriously for the future and take necessary action in terms of technological upgradation to maintain the success track.


Prior to his visit to the Corporate Office, Dr. Pujari also visited the S&P Complex of Nalco at Angul.

Bhubaneswar, 12.05.2014:  To mark the celebration of 16th National Technology Day, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) organized a talk on ‘Technology for India’s Empowerment’ at its Corporate office today. While Dr. Anup K. Pujari, IAS, Secretary to Govt. of India, Ministry of Mines graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, Padma Vibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, DAE Homi Bhaba Chair Professor and Member – Atomic Energy Commission was the Chief Speaker. In his address, he explained the importance of educational institutes and the students’ interest based education in these domains. Highlighting the emerging space for Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), he deliberated the approach for India linking STI to macro global economy. Further he highlighted the linking of technological output to the rural domains giving examples of activities at BARC. Some of the crucial technology needs for the country are for: Safe drinking water, Agriculture value addition, management of biodegradable waste, Solar pumps/lights, Non-fossil electricity generation, Metal extraction from abundant earth resources etc.


Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Anup K. Pujari, Secretary, Ministry of Mines emphasized on small and incremental innovation which matter in bringing about changes and also in getting benefits. The problems need to be looked in an appropriate manner so that there are positive outcome when implemented, even if it is less.


Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, NALCO presided over the function and emphasized the importance of National Technology Day and stressed upon change of mindset on R&D for technological development. He also stressed upon working hard with innovative mind to face the challenging market situation faced by the aluminium producers.


In his address, Shri N.R.Mohanty, Director (Project & Technical) stressed upon need for augmenting R&D to face the current market and also for reducing cost and enhancing efficiencies. He spoke about the ensuing R&D Centre of Nalco being implemented and need of patience required in getting R&D output.


At the outset, Shri S.K. Dash, ED (P&T) of the company introduced both the guests and at the end Dr B K Satpathy, GM (R&D) offered the vote of thanks.

Bhubaneswar, 10.05.2014:  “We are running profitably, while Smelters worldwide are being shut down,” says Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, NALCO. He was addressing the employees of company’s Smelter & Power Complex at Angul yesterday. While appreciating the collective endeavour of the employees, Shri Das outlined the growth strategy and sustainability of NALCO in his address.


At the outset, Shri Das expressed his optimism as regards the completion of ongoing Lean Slurry Project by the end of this year. The Project shall solve the ash disposal problem of the company’s Captive Power Plant by transporting ash slurry to the voids of coal mines. He was equally hopeful about the Utkal-E Coal Project and allotment of Pottangi bauxite mines.


In case of the proposed alumina refinery in Gujarat, Shri Das informed that NALCO has offered the Gujarat Govt 49% of its stake to ensure its participation and commitment. Meanwhile, NALCO has approached the Ambassadors of 6 countries viz. Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Qatar, Oman and Iran, for setting up Smelters overseas in joint venture.


Because of the sluggish aluminium market worldwide and coal shortage, NALCO had to shut down one-third pots of its Smelter at Angul. But recently, the company added 10 more pots to its 631 operational pots. “It’s a small, but significant step,” said Shri Das and urged the employees to remain prepared when things really start looking up.

Bhubaneswar, 25.04.2014:  The 19th All Odisha Quality Circle Convention, organized by NALCO on April 23 and 24, at Nalco Nagar, Bhubaneswar has come to an end. The QC Convention is being organized by NALCO since 1996.


On the concluding day, Prof. (Dr.) K.C. Sahu, Former Director, NITIE, Mumbai and Former Head of IMC, IIT, Kharagpur, was the chief guest and handed over the prizes to the winning QC teams.


The NALCO Trophy and Gold Plaque were won by Quality Circle ‘BLACK DIAMOND’ of Alumina Refinery of NALCO, while Quality Circle ‘DISHA’ of NTPC, Talcher emerged as the Runner-up and won the Silver Plaque. Among the TPM Circles, ‘JHALAK’ of Khondbond Mines, OMQ, TATA Steel was the winner and bagged the Gold Plaque, while ‘SHAKTI’ of Balasore Alloys was the Runner-up winning the Silver Plaque. Quality Circles ‘DAZZLE’ of Manganese Mines, FAMD, TATA Steel and ‘VIBGYOR’ of OCL, Cement Division, Rajgangpur received awards for Meritorious Performance. Special Prizes were won by teams from Kapilas Cement Works, Tangi; Rourkela Steel Plant; HAL, Sunabeda; NTPC, Kaniha and SESA Sterlite, Jharsuguda.


Earlier, on April 23, Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, NALCO inaugurated the convention and focused on improving quality not only in the field of production but also in every sphere of activities.


In the concluding session, Shri Bijoy Dash, Former ED(Production) of NALCO, Shri Chandreswar Khan, Former GM of Tata Motors, Shri S.P. Patnaik, ED(CP&BD), NALCO and Shri S.K. Dash, ED(P&T), NALCO addressed the participants and felicitated other winners.

 

19th NALCO All Odisha QC Convention inaugurated

Bhubaneswar, 23.04.2014:  19th All Odisha Quality Circle Convention was inaugurated today at Nalco Nagar, Bhubaneswar. Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, NALCO graced the inaugural session as the chief guest and inaugurated the convention. Shri S.S. Mahapatra, Director (Production), and Shri S.C. Padhy, Director (HR), were present on the occasion as the guests of honour. Besides, Ms Soma Mondal, Director (Commercial) and Shri S.K. Dash, ED(P&T), NALCO, were also present on the occasion. At the outset, Shri V. Balasubramanyam, ED(Production), NALCO, delivered the welcome address. This year the theme of the convention is “In the race for quality, there is no finish line”. Altogether, 34 teams comprising 29 Quality Circles and 5 TPMs are participating from 22 organizations including NALCO, TATA Steel, HAL, NTPC, SAIL etc. The participating teams would be presenting their case studies in this 2 day long QC Convention. It may be mentioned that, NALCO is organizing this QC convention every year, since 1996 with an aim to spread the Quality Circle movement in Odisha, and also to provide a platform for competition to encourage the best Quality Circles & TPM Circles operating in the State.

NALCO ACHIEVES HIGHEST-EVER TURNOVER & FOREIGN EXCHANGE EARNINGS

Nalco Mines Awarded Bhubaneswar, 03.04.2014:  National Aluminium Company Ltd. (NALCO), the Navratna PSU under Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, has reported excellent results in terms of production performances and foreign exchange earnings for the year 2013-14. During the year, the company achieved record foreign exchange earnings of Rs.3719 crore (provisional). It may be mentioned that as per the Public Enterprise Survey of Dept. of Public Enterprises, Govt. of India, published in February 2014, NALCO has emerged as the 3rd highest ‘Net foreign exchange earning CPSE’ for the year 2012-13.


Besides, in terms of physical performance, NALCO has also reported record performance in bauxite and alumina production for the fiscal. The company has achieved the highest-ever bauxite production of 62.93 lakh tonnes, against the previous best of 54.19 lakh tonnes achieved in previous fiscal. At the same time, NALCO’s Alumina Refinery has produced 19.25 lakh tonnes of alumina hydrate, which is an all-time high, against the previous best of 18.02 lakh tonnes achieved in 2012-13. NALCO organizes Health CampBhubaneswar, 31.03.2014:  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) organized a free health check-up and medicine distribution camp at Bhingarpur village, in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, yesterday.


The camp was organized in the premises of Gangeswar U.P. School, in which about 400 patients from nearby villages were benefitted.


On behalf of Nalco, a team led by Dr. L. Satpathy and Dr. A.K. Chhotray coordinated the camp. NALCO staff including Shri Ekadashi Sahoo, Shri A.K. Patri, Shri R.K. Behera, Ms. Bisnupriya Mishra and Shri B.N. Paikray assisted the team.

 

Nalco Mines Awarded

Nalco Mines Awarded Bhubaneswar, 31.03.2014:  Panchapatmali Bauxite Mines of Navratna PSU National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), located in Koraput district of Odisha, has bagged awards at concluding ceremony of 16th Mines Environment & Mineral Conservation Week (MEMC) – 2013-14, held at Bhubaneswar, yesterday. Panchapatmali Bauxite Mines has received 1st prize in top soil management, 1st prize in Afforestation, 2nd prize in Reclamation & Rehabilitation and 2nd Prize in overall performance under the category of fully mechanized mines (except Keonjhar & Sundergarh).


It may be mentioned that MEMC week is celebrated every year under the aegis of Indian Bureau of Mines (Bhubaneswar Region), wherein various teams from different participating mines are inspected and evaluated.

NALCO inks MoU with Ministry for Higher Production & Sales Bhubaneswar, 22/03/2014: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India regarding financial and non-financial targets for the FY 2014-15. The MoU was signed between Dr. Anup K Pujari, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Mines and Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, NALCO, in the presence of Shri R. Sridharan, IAS, Additional Secretary, Shri Arun Kumar, IAS, Joint Secretary and other officials of Ministry & NALCO in New Delhi, yesterday. As per the MoU the net sales turnover target has been fixed at Rs.6,925 crore. As regards physical performance, NALCO has an annual production target of 68.25 lakh tonnes of bauxite, 21.65 lakh tonnes of alumina, 3.15 lakh tonnes of aluminium and power generation of 5001 million units.


Regarding new initiatives, the proposed major milestones would be new wind power plant of 100 MW capacity at any suitable location in the Country and commissioning of roof top solar power project at its Corporate Office, Bhubaneswar. It may be mentioned that NALCO has set a target of 70% utilisation of fly ash generated by its Captive Power Plant at Angul. Besides, as an austerity measure, NALCO has targeted 5% reduction in administrative expenditure in FY 2014-15 over previous year.


As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility activity, NALCO shall continue to provide free education in residential schools to tribal children of peripheral villages of Mines and Refinery Complex.

Bhubaneswar, 12/03/2014: As part of green initiatives, Navratna PSU National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) is setting up a grid connected PV system rooftop solar project of 160 kilowatts peak (kWp) for its Corporate Office building at Bhubaneswar.


The project setting up activity was formally launched today by Shri Ansuman Das, Chairman cum Managing Director, NALCO. The project is expected to generate green renewable energy of about 2.10 lakh units per annum. 30% subsidy of the capital cost would be provided by Central Government through Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI).


It may be mentioned that in its efforts towards promoting sustainable development by harnessing the unconventional and renewable energy sources, NALCO has already commissioned two wind power plants of capacities 50.4 MW & 47.6 MW at Gandikota in Andra Pradesh and Ludarva in Rajasthan respectively. Besides, plans are also afoot to set up the third wind power plant in its own mined out area of Panchpatmali Bauxite deposit in Koraput.

 

Ms. Soma Mondal takes over as Director (Commercial) of NALCO

Ms. Soma MondalBhubaneswar, 12/03/2014: Ms Soma Mondal has been appointed as the new Director (Commercial) of Navratna PSU National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO). Prior to the new assignment, Ms Mondal was serving the Company as Executive Director (Marketing) at NALCO Corporate office.


After graduating in Electrical Engineering from REC, Rourkela (Now National Institute of Technology), Ms Mondal joined NALCO in 1984 as a Graduate Engineer Trainee. With rich experience in Sales & Marketing, Ms Mondal has worked in company’s Eastern & Western Regional offices in various capacities and has been instrumental in devising various strategies for domestic sales, export, and launch of new products. It may be mentioned that Ms Soma Mondal is the first woman employee of the company to be elevated to the post of Director. With her induction as Director (Commercial), the NALCO Board has been further strengthened.

 

Shri Ansuman Das elected Chairman of CII (Odisha)

Shri Ansuman DasBhubaneswar, 22/02/2014: Shri Ansuman Das, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Odisha chapter, at its Annual General Meeting, held at Bhubaneswar, today. Shri Das succeeds Shri M.K. Gupta, as the Chairman of the apex body of the Industries.


A Mechanical Engineering from REC, Rourkela (Now National Institute of Technology) Shri Das has done his MBA from University of Hull, U.K, with a British Council Scholarship. Shri Das started his career with the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and subsequently joined NALCO in 1982 and has worked in various capacities in NALCO. With more than three decades long professional association with the Aluminium Industry, Shri Das is very well known in industry circles.

Nalco opens free OPD Centre at Angul for registered villagersBhubaneswar, 19/02/2014: The Smelter & Power Complex of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), under its Periphery Development Programme, has opened an OPD Centre at Angul for the benefit of registered villagers living in the vicinity. After check-ups, patients shall be given medicines free of cost at the centre. This medical facility is being extended besides the existing Mobile Health Units run by the company.


The registration drive was launched today at Tulasipal village. Shri Sachin Jadhav, Collector, Angul, Shri S.K.Roy, ED (S&P), NALCO, Shri Pradosh Mohanty, GM (H&A), NALCO and Ms Sujata Shubhadarshini, BDO, Banarpal, handed over the Health Cards to the villagers. Shri Anil Bhatt, DGM (PD & PR), coordinated the distribution of cards.

 

2nd Wind Power Project Commissioned

2nd Wind Power Project CommissionedBhubaneswar, 01/02/2014: As part of its diversification plans, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), A Navratna PSU, has been foraying into other metals and energy sectors. In this context, the company has set up its 2nd Wind Power Plant at Ludarva in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan with a capacity of 47.6 MW. NALCO has successfully commissioned this wind power project on 29th January 2014.


This Rs.283 crore Wind Power Project was executed through M/s Gamesa Wind Turbines Private Ltd., which involved erection of 56 Wind Turbines, each of 850 KW rating. In the first phase of commissioning, 36 turbines were erected. Now, in the second phase, the remaining 20 turbines have been successfully commissioned.


This is the second green initiative of NALCO towards promoting sustainable development by harnessing the unconventional and renewable energy sources, which would credit the company with incentives from the Government.


Earlier, the company commissioned its first Wind Power Plant of 50.4 MW capacity at a cost of Rs.274 crore at Gandikota in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, in December, 2012.


Besides, the company is also planning to set up the third wind power plant in its own mined out area of Panchpatmali Bauxite deposit in Koraput.

 

NALCO’s Q3 Net Profit: Rs. 131 crore :: Net Sales: Rs. 1621 crore

Bhubaneswar, 29/01/2014: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna PSU of Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, has announced the results for the 3rd quarter ended December 2013.


According to the reviewed financial results for 3rd quarter of the financial year 2013-14, taken on record by the Board in a meeting held in New Delhi today, NALCO has registered a net profit of Rs.131 crore, up 10%, against Rs.119 crore achieved during the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.


The net profit and net sales for the 9 months ended December 2013 work out to Rs.470 crore, against the corresponding figure of Rs.347 crore for the previous fiscal, i.e. up by 35%.


On the production front, during the first nine months, NALCO produced 14.26 lakh tonnes of alumina hydrate, which is 12.2% up against 12.70 lakh tonnes achieved during the comparable period of the previous fiscal. However, metal production was 2.38 lakh tonnes, against 3.05 lakh tonnes registered during the comparable nine months of the previous fiscal. Power generation was 3,760 MU against 4,582 MU achieved in the corresponding period of the previous year. In the 3rd quarter of 2013-14, the alumina hydrate production was 4.66 lakh tonnes, 17.4% up as compared to 3.97 lakh tonnes achieved in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal. Metal production in the third quarter of this fiscal has gone down to 0.79 lakh tonnes, against 1.00 lakh tonnes achieved in the same quarter of the previous year. Power generation was at 1,249 MU in this quarter, as compared to 1,525 MU of the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.

 

NALCO: Expansion of Ash-Pond – sustainable development

Bhubaneswar, 25/01/2014: Captive Power Plant(CPP), NALCO, Angul has been making continuous efforts to increase fly ash Utilisation in an environment friendly manner through various methods. In the current financial year 2013-14, the fly ash utilization has been 74.74% upto Decemeber’2013. It is with a sense of great pride and satisfaction to inform the general public at large that construction of a new ash pond over an area of 46.9Acr for High Concentration Slurry Discharge, raising dyke height of Ash pond-I by 3 mt which are designed by IISC,Bangalore for storage of ash after due approval of statutory authorities, are nearing completion. Fly ash generated in the CPP is used for various activities like manufacturing of bricks, use in cement industry, asbestos manufacturing, agriculture, concreting work, road construction work etc. Fly ash is supplied to manufacturers of fly ash brick and ash based products free of cost. NALCO has an incentive scheme to give Rs130/M3 of ash lifted from ash pond to be used within radius of 7km and Rs150/ M3for use beyond 7km. CPP,Nalco as part of its long term project has taken up filling of abandoned coal mines of Bharatpur(South) of MCL, Talcher and plans to complete the project this year. NALCO has also got assurance from NHAI for use of ash in construction of NH-55 and shall construct Ash mound over Ash Pond- II, which has all necessary statutory clearances. Nalco has tied up with IIT,Kharagpur & IMMT,Bhubaneswar for development of new segments like development of tile & extraction of Alumina having long term potential of Ash Utilization. All of these activities will enable NALCO to achieve 100% ash utilization in not too distant a future.

Flower Show by NalcoBhubaneswar, 20/01/2014: National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) organized ‘Basant Pushpa Pradarshani’, its annual Flower & Vegetable Show at Nalco Nagar, Bhubaneswar on 18th and 19th January 2014. As many as 24 institutions and 100 individuals participated in the show in various categories.


Dr. Arabinda Ku. Padhee, IAS, RDC (Central Division), graced the concluding function as the Chief Guest, yesterday. Shri Bijay Ketan Patnaik, Chairman, Odisha State Environment Impact Assessment Authority was the Guest of the Honour of the occasion. Shri S.C. Padhy, Director (HR) and Shri A.K. Sahu, Executive Director (H&A) were also present on this occasion and gave away the prizes to the winners of different categories. While CV Raman College of Engineering emerged as the Champion among the institutions, Ms. Gargi Kaul was the Winner among the individuals.


Earlier, Smt. Manasi Das, President, Nalco Ladies Club, Bhubaneswar, inaugurated the show in the presence of senior officials of Nalco and members of Nalco Ladies Club.

 

Odisha Metalliferous Mines Safety Week Concludes

Mines Safety WeekBhubaneswar, 13/01/2014: Odisha Metalliferous Mines Safety Week (Under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety) concluded yesterday at Bhubaneswar. Shri Anup Biswas, Dy Director, Mines Safety (SEZ), Ranchi, graced the concluding ceremony as the chief guest while Shri Ansuman Das, CMD of NALCO presided over the function.


Shri S.N. Padhi, Ex-Director General of Mines Safety, Govt of India, was honoured with ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his extraordinary contribution towards promoting safety and welfare measures in mines.


It may be mentioned that the annual mega event is organized as part of a special drive of Director General of Mines Safety, Govt of India, to promote safety and welfare measures in Mines. Panchapatmali mines of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) hosted the event. This year, altogether 21 mines under the jurisdiction of Director of Mines Safety, Bhubaneswar region participated in the safety week celebration that was observed from 9th December 2013 to 21st December 2013. During the period competitions were held in various categories and mines inspections were also carried out to focus on implementation of several safety and welfare measures in the mines.


Shri D.K. Mohanty, GM(Mines) I/c, Panchpatmali Bauxite Mines of NALCO, was awarded with the Best Executive Award , while Shri Bijaya Kumar Sahu, Chargeman (Mechanical) of Sukinda Chromite mines of TATA Steel was awarded the Best Worker Award for outstanding contributions in implementation and promotion of safety and welfare measures in Mines.


Panchpatmali Bauxite Mines of NALCO was also adjudged as the overall best mines in group A category of highly mechanized mines whereas, Sukinda mines (Chromite) of M/s IMFA and Chhuinpalli Quartzite of M/s TRL Krosahi Refract Ltd. were adjudged as the overall Best Mines under group B and D category respectively.


The award ceremony was held in presence of Shri R. Subramanian, Director of Mines Safety, Shri S.S. Mahapatra, Director (Production), NALCO, Shri R.K. Mishra, ED(M&R), NALCO and Shri Arvind Kumar, Deputy Director of Mines Safety.

Shri K.C. Samal: Nalco’s New Director (Finance)Bhubaneswar, 06.01.2014 : Shri K.C. Samal has assumed the office of Director (Finance) at National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) on 3rd January 2014. Prior to this assignment, he was working as the Executive Director (Finance) of the company.


A fellow member of Institute of Cost Accountants of India, Shri Samal has significant exposure in the areas of Treasury Functions, Foreign Exchange Management, Corporate Accounts, Budgeting & Control.


He has played a key role in large-scale computerization in Finance, Capital Restructuring, Foreign Debt Management, introducing Risk Management against Foreign Exchange exposure. He is associated with various academic institutions as visiting faculty like XIMB, Utkal University, KIIT, ICAI.


He is representing Nalco on the Board of Joint Venture Company – Angul Aluminium Park Ltd. and NPCIL-NALCO Power Company Ltd. He was a part of the team to institute MoU System of Central PSUs.

 

NALCO achieves ‘Excellent’ ratings for FY 2012-13

Bhubaneswar, 27/12/2013: With reference to the MoU signed with Ministry of Mines, Government of India, Navratna PSU National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has got ‘Excellent’ MoU score of 1.5 by the Department of Public Enterprises for its outstanding performance in 2012-13. NALCO had last achieved the ‘Excellent’ MoU score in FY 2006-07. Besides, during the FY 2012-13, NALCO has also been rated as ‘Excellent’ with a score of 97.5 for compliance with guidelines on Corporate Governance for CPSEs.


During the financial year 2012-13 NALCO has reported a highest ever net sales of Rs.7247 crore against a target of Rs.7073 crore. This represents an increase of 2.46% against the MoU target. The company reported a net profit of Rs. 593 crore with metal sale of 4, 03,102 tonnes and alumina sale of 9, 84,722 tonnes in the financial year 2012-13. NALCO also produced highest-ever bauxite of 54.19 lakh tonnes and highest-ever alumina of 18.02 lakh tonnes in 2012-13. During the period, the company also generated 6076 units of power from its Captive Power Plant.


Moreover, NALCO’s significant achievements and activities towards CSR, Sustainable Development and R&D also contributed towards company’s excellent ratings.


It may be mentioned that as part of MoU on harnessing renewable energy sources, NALCO has entered into a new business of wind power generation with commissioning of 50.4 MW wind power plant at Gandikota in Andhra Pradesh at an investment of Rs. 274 crore, which was synchronized in December, 2012 and sale of power has been commenced.

TOLIC Meeting at NalcoBhubaneswar, 23/12/2013: The first meeting of Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC) (Undertakings), Bhubaneswar, under the Department of Official Language, Govt. of India, was held under the aegis of Nalco, here today. Shri Ansuman Das, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Nalco, presided over the meeting. Shri S.C. Padhy, Director (HR), Shri A.K. Sahu, Executive Director (H&A) and Shri H.C. Pradhan, GM(A&CC) also graced the occasion.


As many as 32 representatives from various organizations like Bharat Sanchar Nigam, Airport Authority, National Cooperative Development Corporation, RITES, RINL, Insurance Companies, Oil Companies and other PSUs participated in the programme.


Shri Sudarsan Tarai, Member Secretary of the Committee delivered the welcome address and highlighted the aims and objectives of TOLIC. The proceedings of the meeting emphasized on the popularization of Hindi as the Official Language across the country and enhance usage in day-to-day official activities.

The camp was organized in the premises of Kuapada U.P. School, in which 478 patients from nearby villages were benefitted.


The team of NALCO’s medical and para-medical staff was led by Dr. L. Satpathy, Dr. J. Panda and Dr. A.K. Chhotray.

NALCO Commercializes R&D ProcessBhubaneswar, 10/12/2013: As a major step in the field of Research & development, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna PSU under Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India has commercialized the laboratory scale R&D process namely ‘Development of Heat Treatment Process for Destruction of Toxic Cyanide and Recovery of Valuables from Spent Pot Lining Material (SPL)’ to M/s Green Energy Resources, Odisha.


In this regard, an MoU between NALCO and M/s Green Energy Resources was signed here today. On behalf of the company, Shri S.K. Dash, Executive Director (P&T) and from M/s Green Energy Resources, Shri N.K. Agrawal, Partner, signed the MoU. Shri Ansuman Das, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Shri N.R. Mohanty, Director(P&T), Shri B.K. Satapathy, GM(R&D) and Shri P.K. Biswal, Partner, M/s Green Energy Resources were notably present on this occasion.


The process was developed in a collaborative effort between NALCO and Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDC), Nagpur. On installation and commissioning of a suitable size plant (on getting necessary statutory clearance) by the M/s Green Energy Resources, the process is likely to help in the utilization of the waste material (Spent Pot Line).
