National Research Development Corporation ( NRDC ) under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt of India has conferred the “ Independence Day Award – 1997 " of Rs 1 lakh on Shri M.M.Seth, DGM (R&D) and Dr.C.R.Mishra, Chief Manager (R&D) of the Company. This is a national honour for the process invention done by the Nalco technologists, jointly with four others of the Silicate and Catalysis group, Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute, Bhavnagar ( Gujarat), for manufacturing Detergent Grade Zeolite ( Zeolite-A), using Sodium Aluminate Liquor of Alumina Refinery as the main raw material.  Subsequently, they have also been honoured with United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)’s Gold Medals for the year 1998. NRDC has also conferred the Prestigious National Award ( Independence Day Award 1998 ) of Rs 75,000 on Dr B.K.Satpathy, Chief Manager(Special Products Marketing), Shri S.K.Patnaik, Chief Manager (Chemical),of Nalco for their meritorious invention  Process for the preparation of alumina hydrate of higher purity & fineness and process for preparation of low soda, high  alpha pure alumina'. "Subsequently these three technologists have been honored with United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization ( WIPO’s) Gold Medal for the year 1999. For their Meritorious Invention “ Process for the Preparation of Alumina Hydrate of Superior purity and fineness  and process for the preparation of low soda high alpha alumina”.

Shri Dolu Patra (41), Senior Technician, M&R Complex, has received the prestigious Shram Vir Award from Prime Minister Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee, for the year 1998, on Feb.14, at New Delhi. This national level honour carries a cita- feb1.gif (24255 bytes)
tion and a cash award of Rs. 60,000. Earlier in 1991, Shri Bijayananda Moharana was  the first Nalconian to receive the Prime Minister’s Shram Shri Award, which carried a citation and a cash prize of Rs. 20,000.

Shri Patra is presently working in Steam and Power Plant of Alumina Refinery at Damanjodi, which has new types of Stein Mills, imported from France. Although he did not have any exposure and training in such mills, he could solve a number of chronic problems through innovative skills pertaining to auto-greasing system and gear box modification works. Besides, he has been suggesting and carrying out various modifications from time to time, since he joined the Company on 15.04.1987. 

A committed and hard working Technician, Shri Patra passed High School in 1976 and subsequently did his ITI ( Fitter Trade) in 1979 and Boiler Attendant Certificate in 1983. Behind the success of Shri Patra is his family, comprising wife Smt.Laxmi Patra, son Hemant (9), daughters Pramila (11) and Lata (15). Sharing his happiness with Parichaya, Shri Patra said that had his father been alive he would have been happier still."I really miss his presence at this momentous achievement of my life,” he said. On questioning about his source of inspiration, he says:" From my formative years, I have considered Work as my Worship. Nalco is ours and we are all members of Nalco family. The very thought process of taking our Company to greater heights of glory, collectively, has been my prime motivation."
